A gastric balloon is a form of weight loss treatment where a balloon filled with fluid is placed in the stomach using a gastroscope. This provides a feeling of fullness, which helps control food intake. The balloon can remain in place for up to 12 months.
At the Nordic Center for Surgery, we have decided to discontinue the use of gastric balloons. We do not consider this method sufficiently effective in the long term compared to surgical methods like gastric sleeve and gastric bypass.
