During Gastric Sleeve surgery, no re-wiring is performed, instead, the stomach is turned into a tube. This method has been shown to have positive effects on patients with overweight and it is a slightly newer method than Gastric Bypass surgery. Gastric Sleeve surgery is a good option for most patients, but not well suited for patients with severe pain related to acid reflux that is not treatable with drugs, in that case Gastric Bypass surgery is a better option as this method cures these problems. Most patients will notice a change in the hormonal control that reduces hunger and that causes the feeling of an early sensation of fullness and satisfaction. During Gastric Sleeve surgery, there is no risk of an internal hernia that may cause ileus. There are fewer problems relating to nutritional uptake in Gastric Sleeve patients compared to Gastric Bypass patients, although it is recommended that patients eat dietary supplements, vitamins and minerals for their entire life-span to avoid diseases related to nutritional deficiencies.
